We Are Here!

When the Whos in Whoville cried out,
We are here! We are here! We are here!
Their voices collaborated in
Carrying a message to a place they'd never seen
And could not imagine

They didn't truly know where they were
. . . didn't need to know . . .
"Here" described their situation perfectly
All the same

Horton knew where they were
And gallantly did all he could to save them
And share their existence with others

Where am I?
Here
Mind, Body, Thoughts, Feelings . . .
Here am I
Whatever my state of mind
Whatever aches and pains I feel
In my body, or my heart
It’s all part of “here”

I am always here
God is always here
For there is nowhere He is not
Love is always here, for God is Love

I needn’t search elsewhere
For Self
For Love

Needn’t worry about the unknown.
There is One who knows
One who is always here
I am known
I am loved
Always

Every bit of me
Inside and out
Is known by Mystery
Is seen by, and exists in,
Unfathomable Eternity

We are here, We are here!
We vibrate, we sing, we dance
Our voices beguile the heart of Love
Dance steps entrance
Energy flows from and through Eternity

We know and see parts of our "here"
We catch glimpses
Impressions
Of all that is deeper and grander
All that fills the spaces

Sweet mystery
Such wonderful magic!
My Beloved calls
And I answer, "I am here!"
We are here, together.

On the fifteenth of May, in the Jungle of Nool,
In the heat of the day, in the cool of the pool,
He was splashing... enjoying the jungle's great joys...
When Horton the elephant heard a small noise.

"My friends!", cried the elephant.
"Tell me! Do tell!
Are you safe? Are you sound?
Are you whole? Are you well?

"Don't give up! I believe in you all.
A person's a person, no matter how small!

Perfection!!

A voice spoke
A wild and glorious universe
Exploded into being

God saw that it was good

With His breath
Life was given to humanity

God saw that it was very good
and . . .

He
never
took it back . . .

Never*

What is perfection?
A perfect cube has six identical square sides
A perfect sphere is . . .
A perfect sphere!

How about a perfect tree?
A perfect mountain?
A perfect bird?**

A perfect human?

Do we not, each
Have an ideal for which we strive?
(and invariably fall short)
A perfection that
Once achieved
Holds promise of success
Security
Peace?

And you know the rules.
You know all the "shoulds" and "should nots"
That have been given,
or assumed . . .
That must be kept
If you are to be
The kind of person you're supposed to be;
so, you can measure up and
Be the very best you, you can be!

Oh, sure, one can never be perfect!
But, it’s good to strive,
Is it not?
We are expected to strive,
Are we not?

After which of these definitions of perfection
Might you be running?

Having all essential elements
Unblemished; faultless
Correct or precise
Excellent in all respects
Conforming absolutely to the description or definition of an ideal type

What if I were to say
That you are perfect right now
No improvements needed?

This is not to say we needn't strive.
That growth and improvement
Are not desirable . . .
Striving, growth, change, learning . . .
These give and come from life and health and love

But . . .
Judging one's value
By how close we are to our ideals . . .
By how well we meet the expectations of self . . . another . . .society . . .
Is like using a ruler to measure how much water is in a lake!
(or, perhaps, like using a tape measure to determine a woman's value?)
It's the wrong form of measure.

It also assumes that we know what all the real rules are!
(We don't)

A perfect tree
Is a tree that behaves like a tree!
It sends shoots up toward the sun . . .
Roots deep into the earth . . .
It inhales carbon dioxide
Exhales oxygen
Does it's whole photosynthesis thing . . .

Grows wherever it is planted!

Only people put trees
In perfect rows
Or trim the branches to be perfectly symmetrical

Nature is wonderfully random
It is an incredible tapestry
Of life forms that flow
Through, around and with
Each other

Nature is "messy"
Unpredictable
Animals and plants
Behave in all kinds of strange ways
Creatures suffer and die
Some limp around with various injuries . . .

But, it's all good.
As it is meant to be.

You
Are wonderfully
 Perfectly human

"God's works are perfect
in every stage of their growth."
Hannah Whitall Smith

Our lives are messy
Crazy
Screwed up
Amazing
Disappointing
Terrifying
Blissful
Wild

We are
Disappointed
Disappointing
Happy
Angry
Hurtful
Hurt
Delightful
Hateful
Confused
Deceitful
Honest

We feel
Ugly or beautiful
Right or wrong
Confused or clear minded . . .

None of these having anything to do
With determining whether you are
Worthy of love
Valuable

We are perfectly imperfect human beings.
What else would we be?

You are the perfect you
With all the wonderful "flaws" and "weaknesses"
That shape who you are
That are shaping who you will become

And it is very good.
Who you are, is good.

Love says so

So, love your sweet, precious self
Smile at your humanity
Love your human ways
and your unpredictable, painful, wonderful human life
We're all in the same, very human, boat!

Nothing Changes . . .

All is dark and small
.
.
.
Until it's Bright and Big

What you are meant to know
. . .
You will know
. . .
When it's time to know

A changed path . . .
Steps "off course"
Can reveal sights never seen
Views never known
Beauty unimagined . . .

. . . yet, always there

The Light is always there
. . .
Always

Love shines bright
Warm and true
Never ending
Before time began

Love looks at you
And smiles

Always

Perfection

Feels so good
Each piece in place
Everything in line

I looked around
Listened hard
Watched and learned
Which path to tread

I know who I am
I know where I belong

Lines clearly . . . boldly drawn
Boxes neatly in a row
Clear and simple
Path to freedom
(Just stay between the lines)
Success and triumph!
Here I come . . .

I know who I’m supposed to be
I know where I belong

Anything that doesn’t fit
I carefully remove
(Or cover and deny)

I know who I’m supposed to be
I’m learning who I am

Perfection is the highest call
It means no mess
The stress I feel . . . It don’t belong
All my boxes line up right
All my outsides shiny bright

Darkness looms
Questions threaten
Danger beckons
Look away!

I know who I am!
I know where I belong!
Watch and follow
Watch and follow!
I will take you home

Sterile light
Exposes fear
Brings me back to
Surface safety

I’m black and white
No secrets here
Simple and free
That's me

Don’t look too deep
That’s where the colors hide

I know who I am
I know where I belong

I know who you are
I know where you belong

. . .

I've forgotten who I am

Life is Not an Emergency

Life is not an emergency....
life is a gift.

Just
. . .

Slow
. . .

Down
